Rises and Sets

Young man winces at the glare up in the sky
Salutes the world just to shield his eyes
John Doe he's a working man
He's paving a street
Drinking lots of water and he’s cursing the heat

A pale pair of newlyweds lying on a beach
Covered up in oil
from their heads down to their feet
And the flower gets to grow
And open up and close
And the rises and sets well they’re just sweet
Oh the rises and sets they’re just sweet

Saturn Neptune Mercury Venus and Mars
Everybody dancing round the very same star
And meanwhile back on Earth
In the seat of someone’s car
Ice Cream’s melting cause some store was
Just too far

And that pale pair of newlyweds
lying on a beach
Ignoring all the warnings of the ultra-violet heat
And the flower gets to grow
And open up and close
And the rises and sets well they’re just sweet
Oh the rises and sets they’re just sweet

But the man in the moon
He’s sick and pale with grief
He sings a lonesome tune
Looking down on a pitch dark street

The man in the moon
Sits there in the dark looking stunned
But then his face lights the room
When he catches a glimpse of the sun
Of the sun

A farmer on a hillside gets a tear in his eye
It's been a hundred days without a single
Cloud up in the sky
If I don’t get some rain soon
All my crops are gonna die
When the fields turn brown
I’ll kiss my livelihood goodbye

And that pale pair of newlyweds
Well they’re still having fun
Underestimating the sheer power of the sun
And the flower knows that life’s a treat

And the rises and sets well they’re just sweet
Oh the rises and sets well they’re just sweet

Now the man in the moon
He’s sick and pale with grief
He sings a lonesome tune
Looking down on a pitch dark street

The man in the moon
Sits there in the dark looking stunned
But then his face lights the room
When he catches a glimpse of the sun
Of the sun
